We want to welcome all Parents and Guardians of incoming Grade 9 students to the Jean Vanier community and thank you for entrusting us with the education of your child.
At Jean Vanier we are busily planning for the 2011-2012 school year and we look forward to welcoming your child as they embark on this new educational journey. For a teenager, it is natural to feel both excitement and anxiety when starting high school. We will have a number of orientation activities planned for September to make sure that their transition from elementary to secondary school goes smoothly.
To assist with this transition, and to provide your child with every opportunity to succeed at Jean Vanier, we are offering you an opportunity to enrol your child in our exclusive Jean Vanier Summer School Program for incoming Jean Vanier Grade 9 students.
The goal of this program is to prepare your child for high school and to provide them with the skills they will need to meet with academic success. All students in Grade 9 are mandated to write a provincial math test, and in Grade 10 a provincial literacy test. The Grade 10 Literacy Test is a requirement for graduation. Our Summer School Program is designed to help you child succeed in literacy and numeracy. In addition, students will take part in computer and physical education classes. At our program students will:
- EARN A HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT BEFORE STARTING HIGH SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER
- Have curriculum delivered by Jean Vanier teachers
- Develop important literacy and numeracy skills that will help them succeed in high school
- Develop important computer technology skills
- Take part in physical activity, both in our gym and on our playing field
- Take part in a high school experience before starting high school
- Meet their peers and Jean Vanier teachers
We strongly urge all incoming Grade 9 students to enrol.
To register your child for our Summer School Program, please download, print and complete the application form found below. Deliver te completed form, along witht the $25.00 registration fee, to the main office at Jean Vanier no later than Friday, April 01, 2011.
