One week in, and the school has already kicked into high gear.
Naturally there was the first week nervousness for our grade nines, but the leadership class, led by Ms. Fracassi made themselves highly visible and assisted our grade 9s with the transition. Thank you to their fine leadership.
In the tradition of Vanier sports excellence, several teams began try-outs this week including Sr Boys Volleyball, Jr boys, Jr. girls, and Sr girls basketball, cross-country, and Jr. boys soccer. We look forward to sharing in their success.
Jean Vanier, our name sake, turns 83 on saturday, and to celebrate, the student council ran a hot dog BBQ, and provided free birthday cake to the first lucky 300 students. We wish Jean Vanier a happy birthday for 2011.
Sadly, the community learned of the passing of Mrs. Rose Donohue, our secretary, Patricia Daniel's mother. The community prayed for the repose of her soul and for the family.
The Breakfast Club begins operation on Monday, where students can obtain a nutritious breakfast free of charge. Several agencies make this possible, and there will be more information about this as we progress through the semester. The breakfast club runs from 8:30 until the bell.
On Monday our leadership class is headed up north to the L'Arche Daybreak retreat area, for their retreat, We wish them good spirits and good weather!
Grade level assemblies begin on Monday, where all students will meet with the administration and be reminded of the very high expectations we have here at Jean Vanier.
We will be celebrating mass for the first time as a community on Wednesday the 14th, at St. Maria Goretti Church. At that time the students will have an opportunity to formally bid farewell to our previous principal, Mr. Peter Aguiar.
There is much more to come. Please watch this space!
